Grammy-winning producer and engineer Nick DiDiarocks out on ADAM Audio A7X monitors
ADAM UsersWhen producer Nick DiDia relocated from Los Angeles to Australia’s beautiful Byron Bay in 2010, he was already one of the world’s leading producers of rock and alternative rock.
Having cut his teeth in Philadelphia in the 80s and 90s as an assistant and later engineer to legendary producer Brendan O’Brien, Nick DiDia was awarded a Grammy in 2001 for his work on Springsteen’s “The Rising”. Among the long list of successful and influential artists to benefit from his decades of expertise are Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots.
After moving Down Under, he established a new base of operations: LaCueva, a homely studio space he co-founded with Australian rock artist Bernard Fanning. In 2016, Nick decided to invest in a new pair of speakers for LaCueva, selecting the ADAM A7X studio monitor. His speakers have served as a focal point of his production workflow since. “The ADAMs are sounding great, everyone comments on how they sound. And I’ve occasionally been asked if there’s a sub playing along with them.”
“It’s all about getting sounds quickly and without too much fuss. But if you’re using the right gear, in the right way, in the right room, it’s usually great.”
His ADAM Audio monitoring system help ensure that each one of his productions reaches his extremely high standards. “The quality of the recording is very important to me, although I try not to let that interfere with the artists performance. It’s all about getting sounds quickly and without too much fuss. But if you’re using the right gear, in the right way, in the right room, it’s usually great.”
The excellent bass response of the A7X lets Nick focus on an area crucial to any great rock mix. “The best rock records often have the best bass parts, so you want to hear and feel the bass. Often, it’s about clearing out the low end of other instruments to make room. And now it’s even more important, with computer and iPhone speakers, to make sure you can hear the melodic content of the bass and low end. I use the ADAMs and a pair of headphones and occasionally an old iMac to check mixes – and the car, of course.”
Among Nick’s upcoming releases recorded at LaCueva include albums by LA rockers Dirty Honey and Byron locals PLTS.
